Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after securing re-election in the state’s governorship election.

The meeting marks the first known encounter between the two leaders since Adeleke emerged victorious in Saturday’s poll.

Adeleke arrived at the Presidential Villa accompanied by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Other members of his delegation included the Director-General of his campaign council and his Chief of Staff.

The meeting comes after Adeleke was declared the winner of the Osun governorship election, in which he polled more than 511,000 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The election victory secured Adeleke another term as governor of the state.

President Tinubu had earlier congratulated Adeleke on his victory, urging the governor to use his renewed mandate to unite the people of Osun State irrespective of their political affiliations.

Tinubu also called on political actors in the state to place the interests of Osun residents above partisan considerations following the conclusion of the election.

Adeleke’s visit to the Presidential Villa comes amid expectations that his second term will involve closer engagement with the Federal Government on issues affecting the state.

The meeting between the president and the re-elected governor also assumes political significance given the rivalry between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which Adeleke contested, and the APC-led Federal Government.

The details of the discussions between Tinubu and Adeleke were not immediately disclosed, but the meeting is expected to touch on governance, development and the relationship between the state and Federal Government.
