Lagos Rolls Out Traffic Shutdown Plan Ahead of Fanti Carnival at TBS
The Lagos State Government has unveiled an extensive traffic diversion plan around Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, as it prepares to host the Lagos Fanti Carnival on Monday.
Authorities say the restrictions are aimed at ensuring a smooth and safe procession, with multiple key routes leading into the venue set to be temporarily closed to vehicular movement.
Affected roads include King George V Road by Mobil Filling Station, Flag House inbound TBS, Force Road inbound TBS, Onikan Roundabout inbound TBS, and WaterBoy Roundabout by Old Defence House.
The government also announced that all link roads connecting to Moloney Road, including Military Road by Old Defence Building, Ajasa Street, Boyle Street, and Hawley Street, will be shut during the event.
To ease anticipated congestion and parking pressure, designated parking areas have been arranged at the Yoruba Lawn Tennis Club, Zone 2 Car Park opposite Island Club along King George V Road, Museum Kitchen Car Park, and The Bell Car Park near Island Maternity.
Motorists have been advised to plan their movements ahead of time and comply with directives from officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who will be stationed across diversion points.
The annual Fanti Carnival, a cultural celebration known for its vibrant displays and street procession, is expected to attract large crowds, prompting the state to prioritise traffic control and public safety measures.
