ADC Crisis Deepens as Abia Chapter Disowns Obinna, Backs David Mark Leadership
The Abia State caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally disowned Mr. Don Norman Obinna, declaring that he lacks the authority to act or speak as the party’s chairman in the state.
The position was announced after a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia, where key leaders reaffirmed their commitment to internal discipline and the rule of law.
Prominent figures at the meeting, including Austin Akobundu, Uko Nkole, and Okey Igwe, said the caucus had reviewed the leadership dispute and resolved to uphold due process within the party.
Reading the communiqué, Nkole referenced an existing order of the Abia State High Court, which, through an interim injunction dated December 3, 2025, restrains Obinna from parading himself as the state chairman pending the determination of the case.
Despite this, Obinna has insisted that the court order has been vacated and maintains that he remains the legitimate chairman of the party in Abia State.
However, the caucus rejected his claim, aligning with the findings of the ADC South-East Zonal Disciplinary Committee report issued on September 25, 2025, which clarified his status within the party.
The leaders described Obinna’s continued claim to the chairmanship as unlawful and misleading, warning that any meetings, directives, or public engagements conducted by him in the name of the party are null and void.
The caucus subsequently affirmed Mazi Kanu O. Kanu as the Acting State Chairman of the ADC in Abia State, pending the conduct of fresh state congresses.
They also urged the public, security agencies, and stakeholders to disregard any statements or actions attributed to Obinna in the capacity of ADC chairman.
In addition, the Abia ADC caucus passed a vote of confidence in the party’s national leadership under Senator David Mark, reiterating its commitment to unity, discipline, and adherence to constituted authority at all levels of the party.
