A political protest unfolded in Kano on Friday as a coalition of youth groups publicly burned caps associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement and received caps bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The event, which took place at a central location in the city, was a stark display of the shifting political allegiances in the state.

The protesters, who identified themselves as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed their rejection of the political ideology of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

A leader of the group explained the action, stating that they were publicly declaring their support for the current administration. “We are tired of being identified with a failed ideology,” one of the protesters said, according to reports.

The burning of the red caps, a symbol of the Kwankwasiyya movement, was met with cheers from the crowd.

The group then accepted and wore new caps bearing President Tinubu’s insignia, symbolizing their allegiance. “This is a new dawn for Kano. We are now fully behind the leadership of President Tinubu,” another participant declared.

Security personnel were present at the scene to monitor the situation and prevent any escalation of violence.

The police have urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could threaten the peace of the state.

The protest and the distribution of the “Don Tinubu” caps were described by organizers as a voluntary expression of support.
