A sharp exchange has erupted between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV over the ongoing tensions surrounding Iran, drawing global attention to their fundamentally different approaches to conflict and leadership.

Trump, known for his forceful rhetoric, took to social media to criticise the pope, describing him as “weak” and suggesting he is influenced by left leaning ideology. He also implied that the pontiff owed his position to him, remarks that have sparked widespread reactions.

Pope Leo XIV, however, pushed back firmly, condemning threats of escalation in the Iran conflict as “truly unacceptable.” Speaking during a trip to Africa, the pope emphasised that his position is guided by Christian teachings and moral responsibility, not politics.
