IGP Orders Arrest Of Policeman Caught In Viral Video Executing Suspect In Delta
The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered the arrest and transfer of a police officer captured in a viral video allegedly executing a young man in broad daylight in Effurun, Delta State.
The incident, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, involved a 28-year-old suspect identified as Mene Ogidi, whose hands were reportedly tied behind his back before he was shot by the officer in full public view.
In a statement issued by the Delta State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police condemned the extra-judicial killing and confirmed that the officer responsible, ASP Nuhu Usman, has been arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary action and prosecution.

According to the police, operatives attached to Area Command Effurun had received intelligence from members of the public that the deceased was apprehended while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.
Police officers were deployed to take the suspect into custody, but ASP Usman, who led the team, allegedly violated Force Order 237 and the Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police Force by discharging his firearm, resulting in the suspect’s death.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the immediate arrest of the officer and his transfer to the State Headquarters in Asaba before he was moved to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The police said the officer has been queried and will appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee for immediate disciplinary sanctions and prosecution.
The command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, human rights, and respect for the rule of law, stressing its zero tolerance for lawlessness, recklessness, and extra-judicial conduct.
CP Oyeniyi also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that justice would be served.
He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as the police continue investigations into the incident.
