Bermuda rolled out a vibrant and cultural welcome for King Charles III, featuring a colourful mix of boats, traditional dancing, and ceremonial celebrations during his historic visit to the island.

The visit marks the monarch’s first official trip to the British Overseas Territory since ascending the throne, and the first by a reigning monarch in Bermuda in centuries. Crowds gathered in large numbers across key locations including St. George’s and Hamilton, turning out to greet the King with enthusiasm and national pride.

A major highlight of the visit was a lively maritime display, where the King travelled by ferry accompanied by a community flotilla of boats; symbolising Bermuda’s deep-rooted sailing heritage and strong coastal culture.

Cultural performances also took centre stage, with the National Gombey Dance Troupe delivering energetic traditional dances rooted in African-Caribbean history. The performances, known for their vibrant costumes and rhythmic storytelling, showcased the island’s rich cultural identity.

In a lighter moment, the King participated in a ceremonial cake-cutting to mark a milestone celebration at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo, where he engaged with staff, volunteers, and members of the public.

Festivities continued across the island with music, public receptions, and interactions with young people, artists, and community leaders. In King’s Square, thousands gathered for a street celebration, complete with military honours and cultural displays, underscoring the significance of the visit.

Beyond the celebrations, the visit also carried symbolic weight, highlighting Bermuda’s history, environmental initiatives, and its relationship with the United Kingdom. The King used the opportunity to engage with local communities, reflect on the island’s past, and celebrate its cultural resilience.
