The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party took another turn on Monday as the party’s Delta State Chairman, Peter Mrakpor, dismissed claims that the suspension of National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, was connected to the party’s March 2026 national convention in Abuja.

Mrakpor, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), clarified that Anyanwu’s suspension, alongside that of some national officers, occurred in 2025 and lasted for only one month before the inauguration of the Interim National Caretaker Working Committee.

According to him, attempts by some party members to portray the suspension as indefinite were politically motivated and aimed at creating confusion within the opposition party.

“The suspension in question was for only one month period and had no connection whatsoever with the March convention 2026 conducted by the party,” he stated.

The Delta PDP chairman further maintained that the Supreme Court judgment being cited in ongoing party disputes did not mention Anyanwu, contrary to speculations in some quarters.

He insisted that the 2026 national convention followed due process and remained valid, urging party faithful to focus on reconciliation and rebuilding unity ahead of future political battles.

Mrakpor also warned party members against aligning with factions challenging the legitimacy of the convention, stating that anyone purchasing nomination forms from the “Turaki group” was merely wasting money.

His comments come amid renewed tensions within the PDP over leadership control, the outcome of the Abuja convention, and zoning arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development also follows recent remarks credited to Nyesom Wike suggesting that the PDP had zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a declaration that has continued to stir debate within the party.
