The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his conviction in absentia over corruption-related offences.

According to the anti-graft agency, Mamman had reportedly gone into hiding before he was eventually apprehended in the Rigasa area of Kaduna.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed the development, stating that the former minister had earlier been convicted and sentenced in absentia to 75 years imprisonment.

Authorities said the conviction was linked to corruption-related offences allegedly committed during his time in office as Minister of Power under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The commission said further details regarding Mamman’s arraignment, custody arrangements and possible next legal steps are expected to be made public in the coming hours.

The arrest marks a significant development in the EFCC’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign targeting former public office holders accused of financial crimes and abuse of office.
