Armed jihadist groups in Mali have reportedly burned dozens of vehicles while enforcing a blockade on major roads ahead of the Eid holiday, causing widespread disruption to transport and raising fears over worsening insecurity in the West African nation.

The incidents are said to have occurred along key highways where militants have increasingly asserted control, targeting commercial trucks, passenger vehicles, and supply convoys attempting to move through affected areas.

Security sources and local reports indicate that the attackers are using the blockade strategy to restrict movement, exert influence over rural transport routes, and disrupt economic activity ahead of the busy holiday period when travel demand typically increases.

The attacks have left transport operators stranded and forced several routes to be suspended, deepening concerns about food and goods supply chains in affected regions.

Mali has faced years of insurgency linked to jihadist groups operating in the Sahel, with violence often concentrated along strategic transit corridors connecting towns and regional trade routes.

Authorities have previously struggled to secure vast rural areas, and analysts warn that such coordinated blockade tactics signal an ongoing evolution in militant strategy, shifting from isolated attacks to broader territorial disruption.

The situation remains tense as security forces continue efforts to restore safe passage along major roads ahead of Eid celebrations.
