Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, alleging irregularities and manipulation in the process.

Hayatu-Deen, who is among the key contenders in the ADC presidential race alongside other prominent figures, expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct and credibility of the exercise, insisting that the results did not reflect the true will of party members.

Although full details of his specific objections were not immediately disclosed, the former banker and economist is understood to have raised concerns over alleged malpractices and lack of transparency during the voting and collation process.

The ADC presidential primary, which featured leading aspirants including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen, was conducted across thousands of wards nationwide as part of the party’s internal democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The exercise was reportedly monitored in various locations, with results collated from different parts of the country as voting concluded.

Hayatu-Deen’s rejection adds to growing tensions within the party following a highly competitive contest that has seen aspirants and their supporters closely monitor the outcome of the primaries.

As of the time of filing this report, the ADC has not officially responded to the allegations.
