A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Anosike, has congratulated the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) following the recent Court of Appeal judgment touching on the party’s prolonged leadership dispute, while urging members to embrace reconciliation and unity ahead of future political contests.

In a statement issued after the appellate court’s ruling, Anosike described the judgment as a significant step toward restoring stability within the PDP. He commended the party leadership for its resilience throughout the legal battle and called on all aggrieved members and factions to place the party’s collective interest above personal ambitions.

The appeal court had recently faulted aspects of an earlier Federal High Court ruling that recognized a factional caretaker committee, holding that the lower court granted reliefs that were not specifically sought by parties before it. The judgment has been interpreted differently by rival factions within the party’s leadership tussle.

Anosike urged party stakeholders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and instead focus on rebuilding confidence among members and supporters. According to him, continued internal conflicts could weaken the PDP’s ability to effectively serve as a credible opposition force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He further appealed to party leaders across the states and at the national level to intensify reconciliation efforts, stressing that peace and unity remain essential for the party’s progress. He noted that while legal processes may clarify issues of leadership, lasting stability can only be achieved through dialogue and mutual understanding.

The latest court ruling is the latest development in a series of legal battles involving competing PDP factions over the legitimacy of party leadership structures and conventions. Several stakeholders have continued to push for reconciliation even as legal proceedings and interpretations of court decisions persist.
