HURIWA Condemns Killing of Three FRSC Officers in Kebbi, Demands Urgent Security Action
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has strongly condemned the killing of three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by suspected bandits along the Tsamiya–Illo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims; Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistant Umar Aliyu, Senior Road Marshal Assistant Ezra Manu Gona, and Road Marshal Assistant I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir, were reportedly attacked and killed while on official duty.
HURIWA described the incident as a “brutal and cowardly attack,” saying it represents a continued assault on public servants who risk their lives in service to the nation. The group extended condolences to the families of the deceased, the FRSC leadership, and the people of Kebbi State.
The rights organisation called on security agencies including the military, police, and intelligence services to intensify coordinated operations aimed at tracking down and prosecuting those responsible for the attack.
HURIWA also praised security operatives for the recent rescue of the sister of a former Minister of Power and her twin sons from kidnappers, noting that intelligence-led operations can yield positive results when properly executed.
However, the group expressed concern over the continued abduction of civilians in different parts of the country, particularly the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, urging authorities to prioritise their immediate rescue.
It warned that prolonged captivity exposes victims to serious physical and psychological harm and called for urgent action to prevent further tragedy.
HURIWA urged the Federal Government and security agencies to demonstrate stronger political will in tackling terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, stressing that no part of Nigeria should be left under the control of criminal elements.
The group reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and called for sustained, intelligence-driven security operations nationwide.
