FG, NLNG Forge Stronger Partnership to Drive Nigeria’s Economic Diplomacy
The Federal Government and Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) have strengthened collaboration aimed at using economic diplomacy to attract investments, expand trade opportunities, and enhance Nigeria’s global economic influence.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this during a meeting with the management of NLNG led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting centred on the strategic role of NLNG in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives through investment promotion, international partnerships, trade expansion, and the projection of the country’s economic potential abroad.
Speaking during the engagement, Falade congratulated the minister on her appointment and praised the ministry’s efforts in advancing Nigeria’s interests globally.
He described NLNG as a major player in Nigeria’s economic development and an important ambassador of the country’s capabilities on the international stage.
According to him, the company has consistently operated in line with global standards, contributing to national development through revenue generation, employment creation, local content development, and support for Nigerian businesses.
Falade highlighted the ongoing Train 7 expansion project, noting that it is expected to increase NLNG’s production capacity from about 22 million tonnes per annum to approximately 30 million tonnes annually when completed.
He said the expansion would boost government revenue, create more jobs, and further consolidate Nigeria’s position as a major global supplier of liquefied natural gas.
“The expansion will generate additional revenue for the Federal Government, create employment opportunities and further strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading global supplier of liquefied natural gas,” he said.
The NLNG chief executive also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s image globally through professionalism, innovation, and adherence to international best practices.
In her remarks, Odumegwu-Ojukwu described NLNG as a strategic national asset whose achievements demonstrate the capacity of Nigerian institutions and professionals to compete globally.
She said the company’s operations align with the government’s economic diplomacy priorities, especially in the areas of energy security, investment attraction, industrial growth, and sustainable economic development.
The minister welcomed increased cooperation between the ministry and NLNG, stressing the importance of showcasing Nigeria’s investment opportunities and strengthening the country’s position in global markets.
Both parties agreed to deepen collaboration in support of national development goals, economic prosperity, and Nigeria’s competitiveness in the international business environment.
