Group Hails APC Lagos Ticket, Says Hamzat’s Election Will Give Lagos Next-Generation Leaders

Ahead of the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election, the All Progressives Congress has unveiled the current Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as its governorship candidate, with Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, the former Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos, as his running mate.

The ticket has been met with widespread praise from the Progressive Next Generation Initiative, a group that describes the pairing as a defining moment for youth inclusion in Nigerian politics.

In a press release issued on Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Convener of PNGi, Hon. Jeffery Omoh Ozemegwa, lauded the APC’s choice, describing it as a ticket for the next generation of leaders.

He made the remarks during a gathering of APC faithfuls in Abuja, themed “Building the Next Generation Future of Governance through Youth Participation,” and urged young Nigerians to take a more active role in governance, emphasizing that the future of leadership depends on meaningful youth participation in public affairs.

Hon. Omoh also weighed in on the broader national political landscape, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid should be viewed as a national project with particular strategic benefits for the youths.

He argued that political alignments across the country indicate that continuity in 2027 would naturally bring the Presidency closer to the youths in the next political cycle. “Advocating continuity strengthens national stability while giving young leaders from the region a clearer path to national leadership,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Convener explained that PNGi operates as a modern, data-driven advocacy structure distinct from conventional political support groups.

He noted that the initiative uses analytics, community intelligence, and multilingual messaging to educate rural and semi-urban communities on the achievements of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the group’s work is aimed at countering misinformation, improving political awareness, and ensuring that citizens at the grassroots benefit from government programmes.

He further added that one of the strongest APC tickets is the Lagos ticket of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as governorship candidate and Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as his running mate, describing the duo as capable of delivering next-generation leadership for the state.
