Peter Obi Camp Rejects Lokoja Court Ruling on NDC, Vows Legal Challenge
The media office of the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi has described the recent Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja on the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a temporary setback, insisting that the coalition’s political movement remains on course.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), the organisation said it had received numerous inquiries from journalists and supporters following the court’s decision concerning the legal status of the NDC.
The statement, signed by POMR spokesman Idris Zekeri Jnr., said the movement’s legal team was reviewing the judgment with a view to taking immediate corrective and appellate action.
While awaiting legal advice, the media office appealed to supporters, coalition partners and other Nigerians backing the movement to remain calm and focused.
“We always knew that the journey to dismantle a deeply entrenched and grossly underperforming political status quo would be met with fierce institutional resistance and unexpected legal detours,” the statement said.
It maintained that the court ruling represents only a temporary obstacle and not the end of the coalition’s political aspirations.
“Today’s ruling is a hurdle, not a stop sign. Our commitment to providing a transparent, legitimate and formidable alternative for Nigerians remains unshakeable. The platform we are building is robust, and our legal rights will be vigorously pursued,” the statement added.
The media office further urged supporters not to lose hope, expressing confidence that the legal process would ultimately clear the path for the movement’s political objectives.
“The vehicle may face a temporary breakdown, but our destination remains non-negotiable,” the statement concluded.
The reaction follows the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja’s decision to set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.
