NiMet Wraps Up Agency-Wide 2026–2030 Strategy Rollout Across Directorates
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has completed the cascading of its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan to all its directorates, a move aimed at aligning every arm of the agency with its long-term vision and strengthening the delivery of meteorological services across the country.
The exercise followed the official launch of the Strategy 2026–2030 on March 16, 2026, and sought to translate the agency’s enterprise-wide goals into practical, directorate-level action plans.
According to NiMet, the strategy is built on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework and is driven by five strategic pillars and 12 strategic objectives designed to improve organisational performance, enhance weather and climate services, and build greater climate resilience in Nigeria.
The agency said the cascading process was undertaken to ensure that each directorate understands its specific responsibilities in implementing the strategic plan and contributing to the achievement of the agency’s overall objectives.
It explained that the exercise aligned directorate priorities with enterprise goals, linked operational activities to strategic outcomes, and established key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress and strengthen accountability.
NiMet also noted that the process extends strategic objectives to individual performance plans, a step expected to foster greater ownership, responsibility and performance across the workforce.
To ensure broad participation, the exercise was conducted in four phases involving the agency’s nine directorates and the Office of the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer.
The first phase brought together the Directorates of Weather Forecasting Services and Applied Meteorological Services, while the second involved the Office of the Director-General/CEO, Corporate Services, and Research and Training.
The third phase featured the Directorates of Engineering and Technical Services, and Human Resource Management and Administration, while the final phase included the Directorates of Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and Legal Services.
NiMet said the completion of the strategy cascade marks an important milestone in the implementation of its five-year strategic roadmap, creating a unified framework that connects planning, execution and performance across the agency.
The agency expressed confidence that the initiative would improve institutional effectiveness, enhance accountability, strengthen service delivery, and position NiMet to deliver world-class meteorological services that support national development and climate resilience.
