Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven, and evidence-based policing with the commissioning of a new Centre for DNA Forensics, Criminal Investigation and Biotechnology in Enugu State.

Speaking during a working visit to the state, the IGP described the facility as a significant milestone in modernising criminal investigations and strengthening Nigeria’s justice system through the use of advanced forensic technology.

According to him, the centre will improve the Force’s capacity to investigate and prosecute complex crimes by providing scientific evidence that enhances the credibility of criminal investigations.

Disu commended the development partners that supported the establishment of the facility, noting that the centre would serve as a hub for forensic research, specialised training, and the investigation of serious crimes, including kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, cybercrime, human trafficking, and homicide.

The police chief stressed that embracing technology and forensic science is critical to tackling evolving security challenges and ensuring more effective law enforcement across the country.

Addressing officers and personnel of the Enugu State Police Command, the IGP urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, strengthen intelligence gathering, and remain disciplined in the discharge of their duties.

He also emphasised the importance of respecting human rights while carrying out policing responsibilities, describing public trust as essential to effective law enforcement.

Reassuring officers of the Force’s commitment to their welfare, Disu said efforts would continue to improve training opportunities, operational capacity, and working conditions for police personnel nationwide.

He further reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, misconduct, and abuse of office, warning that officers found wanting would be held accountable as part of ongoing reforms aimed at building a more professional and accountable police service.
