President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the newly completed Collector Road C01 and an accompanying bridge in Abuja’s Institution and Research District, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure and improving connectivity across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, Tinubu said the project demonstrates his administration’s resolve to fulfil campaign promises through projects that directly improve the lives of Nigerians.

He described the road as another milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it symbolises the government’s determination to deliver sustainable development rather than “abandoned dreams and half-hearted efforts.”

“We promised Renewed Hope. Today, as we stand on this newly constructed Collector Road C01, complete with its bridge, we are not just looking at a physical road; we are looking at a promise kept,” the President said.

Tinubu disclosed that work had already begun on extending the road corridor to RR III and other parts of the capital, a move he said would fully integrate the Institution and Research District into Abuja’s road network.

According to him, the project addresses long-standing accessibility challenges affecting key institutions, including the Body of Benchers, Nile University and Baze University.

Recalling concerns raised by the Body of Benchers during the Nigerian Law School Call to Bar ceremony last year, the President said the government acted swiftly by approving the project under emergency procurement.

“We could not have legal luminaries navigating potholes or students arriving late to lectures because of a lack of a simple bridge. We approved it, and today the project has been delivered,” he said.

Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, attributed the rapid execution of infrastructure projects in the FCT to President Tinubu’s decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which he said improved access to funding.

Wike described infrastructure as a critical driver of economic growth, noting that the construction of the road created hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for residents.

He assured that the ongoing infrastructure renewal would extend to every district of the FCT, including satellite towns.

“Every district will receive the attention of the present government. We have gone round so many districts, both in the city and the satellite towns. More projects will come,” Wike said.

The newly inaugurated Collector Road C01 is expected to improve access to major educational and legal institutions, reduce traffic congestion and strengthen connectivity within the Institution and Research District, further advancing the Federal Government’s infrastructure development agenda in the nation’s capital.
