King Charles Reunites With Prince Harry, Meghan and Grandchildren After Four Years
Britain’s royal family has taken a significant step toward reconciliation after King Charles III hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a private family gathering at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. The meeting marked the first time in four years that the King had seen his grandchildren in person, in what royal observers describe as one of the most important family reunions since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
The gathering took place on Friday at the King’s country residence and was attended by Queen Camilla. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the meeting occurred but declined to release photographs or details of the discussions, emphasizing that the occasion was intended to remain a private family event. Reports indicate that King Charles personally insisted the reunion be kept out of the public spotlight to allow for open and candid conversations among family members.
Prince Harry had travelled to the United Kingdom earlier in the week to participate in events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Initially, Meghan and the couple’s children were expected to remain abroad due to ongoing concerns over security arrangements during visits to Britain. However, they later flew in from a family holiday in Europe to join Harry for the long-awaited reunion at Highgrove.
The meeting is widely viewed as a potential breakthrough after years of strained relations within the royal family. Tensions escalated following Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties, their high-profile interviews, the release of Harry’s memoir Spare, and continuing disagreements over security, media coverage and family relationships. Despite those differences, sources close to the family say communication between the King and Harry has improved in recent months, particularly following Charles’ cancer diagnosis, with regular telephone conversations helping pave the way for the reunion.
A central focus of the visit was the King’s opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Archie, now seven, and Lilibet, five, have lived in California with their parents since 2020 and had not seen their grandfather since the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. The private gathering therefore marked a rare chance for the monarch to reconnect with members of his younger family.
Notably absent from the gathering was Prince William, whose relationship with Harry remains deeply strained. British media reports suggest no meeting between the brothers was planned during Harry’s latest visit to the UK, underscoring that while relations between the King and his younger son may be improving, wider family reconciliation remains a work in progress.
Royal commentators say the Highgrove reunion may represent an important symbolic step rather than a complete resolution of years of family discord. While Buckingham Palace and representatives for the Sussexes have offered no further comment, the decision to meet privately; away from cameras and public scrutiny, has been interpreted as a mutual effort to rebuild trust and preserve family relationships. Whether the meeting leads to a lasting thaw in relations remains uncertain, but it has raised hopes that one of the monarchy’s most closely watched family rifts could gradually begin to heal.
