Three Secret Service Officials Placed on Leave Amid Misconduct Investigation

Three US Secret Service officials have been placed on administrative leave while the agency investigates allegations of potential misconduct, officials said.

The three employees were placed on leave Tuesday pending an investigation by the Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the agency confirmed. All three were working in non-law-enforcement roles.

The agency has not publicly disclosed the specific conduct under investigation or identified the three employees.

However, US officials familiar with the matter told CBS News that those affected include Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service’s chief of communications, along with two other employees in the agency’s communications office.

The three officials have reportedly lost their security clearances and access to their government-issued devices while the investigation is underway. Officials said such measures are common during internal investigations and do not, by themselves, establish wrongdoing.

The Secret Service said the investigation was prompted by potential misconduct but declined to provide further details.

“The US Secret Service is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” an agency spokesperson said, stressing that its mission requires employees to maintain high standards of duty and honesty.

The investigation comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and other senior US officials.

Trump has been the target of multiple assassination attempts and security threats in recent years, increasing pressure on the agency to maintain strict operational and security standards. An armed man also breached security at the Washington Hilton in April while Trump was attending the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

The latest action follows another recent investigation involving a member of Vice President Vance’s security detail. That case reportedly involved allegations surrounding the possible disclosure of sensitive information and was described by the Secret Service as an administrative investigation with a potential criminal component.

The circumstances surrounding the latest investigation remain unclear, and there has been no public finding that the three officials committed misconduct.

The Secret Service has not indicated how long the investigation will take or what disciplinary action, if any, could follow.

For now, the three employees will remain on administrative leave while the Office of Professional Responsibility conducts its review.
