Trump to Visit Ireland for Irish Open at His Doonbeg Golf Course

US President Donald Trump is set to travel to Ireland next month to attend the Irish Open golf tournament at his Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, County Clare.

A White House official confirmed that Trump will be in Ireland on September 12 and 13, with his visit coinciding with the final days of the Amgen Irish Open. He is also expected to attend an event involving US embassy personnel and business representatives during the trip.

The 2026 Irish Open is scheduled for September 10 to 13 at Trump’s coastal golf resort in Doonbeg. It marks the first time the prestigious tournament will be staged at the venue.

Trump has previously expressed interest in attending the tournament and watching some of the world’s leading golfers compete at his course. Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, the reigning Irish Open champion, is among the major names expected to feature in the event. The tournament field also includes players such as Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Luke Donald.

Trump’s planned visit will also have a diplomatic dimension. His programme is expected to include engagements in Dublin before he travels to County Clare, although the full itinerary has yet to be finalised. Irish officials are preparing for meetings involving senior government figures, but some elements of the schedule remain subject to confirmation.

The visit is expected to trigger a major security operation involving Irish police and the US Secret Service. Authorities are also preparing for possible demonstrations in Dublin and Doonbeg, with groups opposed to Trump’s policies already discussing protests.

The Irish Open is expected to attract a large crowd to County Clare, adding to the logistical demands of hosting a sitting US president at the same venue. Local businesses have also been preparing for increased demand for accommodation and other services around the tournament weekend.

Trump’s planned return to Doonbeg comes seven years after his last presidential visit to the resort, which he made during his first term in June 2019. The golf resort was acquired by Trump in 2014 and has since become one of his family’s prominent properties outside the United States.

The upcoming trip is likely to attract attention beyond golf, given the unusual overlap between Trump’s presidential duties and a sporting event being held at a property owned by his family.
