Shettima Leads Governors to Benin on Textile Revival, Agro-Industrial Mission

Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a delegation of state governors and senior federal government officials on a working visit to the Republic of Benin as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme and revitalise the country’s textile industry.

According to the Office of the Vice President, the delegation is visiting the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone near Cotonou, where it will engage with government officials, investors and private sector operators to study Benin’s model for agricultural value addition, industrial infrastructure and export-oriented manufacturing.

The visit is expected to provide practical insights that will support Nigeria’s drive to expand agro-processing, boost local manufacturing and enhance industrial competitiveness.

It also aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to revive the nation’s textile industry through increased domestic production, job creation and reduced dependence on imported fabrics and garments.

The delegation includes the governors of Imo, Zamfara, Plateau, Kwara, Katsina and Jigawa states, alongside senior federal officials involved in the implementation of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Programme.

The initiative is part of the Tinubu administration’s broader economic agenda aimed at promoting industrialisation, strengthening agricultural value chains and accelerating export-led growth.
