President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, on his election as Chairman of the African Association of Accountant-Generals (AAAG), describing the achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria.

Dr. Ogunjimi emerged victorious after a closely contested election involving candidates from Tanzania and The Gambia during the association’s Annual General Meeting held recently in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

In a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said Ogunjimi’s emergence reflects Nigeria’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and excellence in public financial management.

The President expressed confidence that the new AAAG Chairman would strengthen cooperation among member states, encourage the exchange of best practices, build institutional capacity, and drive reforms aimed at improving prudent financial management across the African continent.

Tinubu also wished Dr. Ogunjimi a successful tenure and assured him of the Federal Government’s full support as he takes on the continental leadership role.

The African Association of Accountant-Generals brings together heads of government accounting institutions across the continent to promote sound public financial management, strengthen accountability systems, and encourage collaboration among African countries.
