Global stock markets advanced on Wednesday as renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI)-related companies and stronger-than-expected corporate earnings lifted investor confidence, even as markets remained cautious over ongoing peace negotiations aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.

Wall Street extended its record-breaking rally after technology and AI-linked companies posted robust earnings, fuelling renewed buying in semiconductor and infrastructure stocks. The upbeat sentiment spread across Asia, where Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed about 3.7% and South Korea’s Kospi surged 3.8%, while European markets also traded higher, supported by gains in technology shares.

The rally was driven largely by continued investor confidence in AI-driven growth. Companies linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure attracted strong demand following a series of impressive quarterly earnings reports. U.S. software company Palantir Technologies soared after reporting exceptional revenue growth, while industrial giant Caterpillar also gained as investors bet that rising investment in AI data centres will continue to boost demand for construction equipment and infrastructure.

Despite the bullish mood, investors remained focused on diplomatic efforts involving the United States and Iran. Optimism that negotiations could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz; a vital global oil shipping route, helped push oil prices lower, easing fears of supply disruptions and inflation. Brent crude slipped below $80 per barrel, while benchmark government bond yields also declined as markets anticipated reduced geopolitical risk.

Analysts said lower energy prices have provided additional support for equities by reducing inflationary pressures and strengthening expectations that major central banks may have more room to maintain supportive monetary policies. The decline in bond yields also increased the appeal of growth stocks, particularly those in the technology sector.

Not all companies benefited from the market rally. Shares of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and SpaceX came under pressure after investors reacted cautiously to their latest financial updates, while pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk also declined following disappointing sales figures for its weight-loss drug, Wegovy.

Meanwhile, gold prices moved higher as some investors continued seeking safe-haven assets amid uncertainty surrounding the Middle East negotiations. Currency markets remained relatively stable, although traders also kept a close watch on developments involving the Japanese yen after recent intervention by U.S. authorities to support the currency.

Market participants are now awaiting further developments from the U.S.-Iran peace talks, as well as upcoming U.S. economic data on inflation and employment, which are expected to influence the next policy decisions by the Federal Reserve. Analysts say sustained progress in Middle East diplomacy, combined with continued strength in AI-related earnings, could provide further momentum for global equities in the weeks ahead.
