Joint Security Forces Rescue 308 Kidnap Victims in Kwara, Niger and Kebbi

A coordinated security operation involving the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies has led to the rescue of 308 kidnapped victims across Kwara, Niger and Kebbi states.

Security sources described the operation as one of the largest and most successful anti-kidnapping missions carried out in recent months, with multiple rescue efforts executed simultaneously across the three states.

According to the sources, the joint operation was coordinated under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and resulted in the safe recovery of hundreds of victims who had been abducted by criminal gangs operating in the affected areas.

Among those rescued were 176 residents of Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, who were reportedly kidnapped during an attack on the community.

The rescued victims have since been evacuated to the Military Medical Facility at Wawa Cantonment in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State, where they are receiving medical treatment, psychological support and other humanitarian assistance.

Although security officials did not disclose details of how the operation was carried out, sources said personnel from the military, DSS, NCTC, the Nigeria Police Force and other collaborating security agencies worked together in intelligence gathering, surveillance and tactical operations that led to the successful rescue of the victims.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether any suspected kidnappers were arrested or killed during the operation. Investigations are expected to continue as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks responsible for a wave of kidnappings across parts of north-central and north-west Nigeria.

The latest rescue comes amid renewed government efforts to strengthen collaboration among Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies in tackling kidnapping, banditry and terrorism. Security experts say the success of the operation demonstrates the value of coordinated intelligence-sharing and joint field operations in confronting organized criminal groups.

Officials are expected to provide further details on the operation in the coming days, including the identities of the rescued victims and any follow-up actions against those behind the abductions.
