Aston Villa have completed the signing of DR Congo international right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United.

The 28-year-old defender joins Unai Emery’s side on an initial loan, with the agreement containing an obligation to make the transfer permanent subject to the agreed conditions.

Wan-Bissaka was pictured alongside Unique Sports Group chief executive Will Salthouse after putting pen to paper on his Aston Villa contract, confirming the completion of the move.

The transfer brings an end to Wan-Bissaka’s two-year spell at West Ham, where he arrived from Manchester United in 2024.

The defender made 25 Premier League appearances for the Hammers during the 2025/26 campaign but could not prevent the club from being relegated to the Championship. He was also increasingly used from the bench towards the end of the season.

His move to Villa Park gives him an immediate return to the Premier League and provides Emery with additional depth and competition at right-back.

Wan-Bissaka is expected to compete with Matty Cash for the position as Aston Villa prepare for another demanding domestic and European campaign.

Villa had identified the right-back position as an area requiring reinforcement, particularly following the departure of Kosta Nedeljkovic on loan. Reports earlier in the negotiations indicated that West Ham had initially valued Wan-Bissaka at around £25 million.

The move represents another significant change for West Ham following their relegation, with Wan-Bissaka among several players to leave the club during the summer transfer window.

For Wan-Bissaka, the transfer provides an opportunity to re-establish himself in the Premier League and work under Emery at a Villa side looking to strengthen its squad.

The former Crystal Palace and Manchester United defender brings considerable Premier League experience and a reputation for strong one-on-one defending to Villa’s back line.

Villa’s decision to structure the deal initially as a loan with a conditional obligation to buy also gives the club flexibility while securing the services of a player who has already demonstrated his ability at the highest level of English football.
