Range Rover Enters Electric Era With First Fully Electric SUV

Range Rover has officially entered the luxury electric-vehicle market with the launch of the Range Rover Electric, the brand’s first fully electric model.

The new SUV marks a major shift for the British luxury marque, which has spent years developing an electric version capable of retaining the comfort, refinement and off-road ability associated with the Range Rover name.

The launch comes after an extensive development and testing programme, including trials in extreme Arctic conditions. JLR says the vehicle was engineered to deliver the familiar Range Rover experience while replacing its conventional powertrain with electric propulsion.

The Range Rover Electric is powered by two electric motors producing up to 542 horsepower and 850Nm of torque. It uses a 118.5kWh battery and an 800-volt electrical architecture.

Range Rover claims a maximum WLTP driving range of about 600 kilometres (372 miles), while compatible 350kW rapid charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes.

The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in around 4.3 seconds, putting it firmly in the high-performance luxury SUV category.

Rather than creating an electric SUV focused solely on road performance, JLR has emphasised maintaining Range Rover’s off-road credentials.

The vehicle features advanced traction management and single-pedal driving, while Range Rover says it can wade through water to a depth of approximately 900mm (35 inches). The company’s testing programme included challenging low-grip and extreme-weather conditions.

The electric model also retains the understated exterior design associated with the current Range Rover family. According to JLR, the major visual clues to its electric powertrain include a flush front grille and EV-specific wheel details.

Production of the Range Rover Electric is taking place at JLR’s Solihull plant in the West Midlands, making the vehicle an important part of the company’s wider investment in electrification and British manufacturing.

The model is positioned at the top end of the luxury EV market, with UK pricing reported to start at about £154,070, while higher-specification versions can cost considerably more.

The vehicle is also beginning its expansion into international markets. In India, bookings opened on September 2, 2026, with the SUV being offered as a full import.

The launch represents one of the most important changes in Range Rover’s history. The company is attempting to prove that an electric vehicle can deliver not only zero tailpipe emissions but also the combination of luxury, quietness, performance and rugged capability expected from one of the world’s best-known premium SUV names.

With traditional luxury manufacturers increasingly facing competition from established EV makers and rapidly expanding Chinese brands, the Range Rover Electric arrives as JLR’s answer to the growing premium electric-SUV market.
