6,642 Apply For DESTMA Jobs As Delta Approves Fresh Recruitment

No fewer than 6,642 applicants have submitted applications for employment into the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), following the approval of a fresh recruitment exercise by the state government.

The Director-General of DESTMA, Dr Benjamin Essien Okiemute, disclosed this while commending Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving the recruitment, which he said would strengthen the authority’s workforce and create additional employment opportunities for residents.

Okiemute described the governor’s approval as evidence of his administration’s commitment to improving the economic wellbeing of Deltans through job creation.

“Only a people-centred governor would be magnanimous enough to take more Deltans off the streets and engage them gainfully at a time when most parts of the world are thinking of downsizing. This is a testament to the fact that the renewed hope of the MORE Agenda is at work in our state,” he said.

According to the DESTMA boss, the recruitment portal remained open for four weeks before it was closed, with the authority now reviewing the applications ahead of the screening stage.

“As of today, we have received 6,642 applications. You would notice that the application site has closed after being open for four weeks. We are currently reviewing all the applications, and soon we will contact those who are to write our screening examination,” Okiemute stated.

He urged applicants to be patient and rely solely on official DESTMA channels for updates, warning them against fraudsters who might demand money in exchange for employment.

The DG stressed that the recruitment process was free and that no individual had been authorised to sell or allocate employment slots.

Okiemute said only applicants who meet the required criteria and are shortlisted would receive SMS notifications concerning the screening exercise.

He added that the recruitment formed part of DESTMA’s ongoing rebranding and repositioning programme aimed at building a more efficient, disciplined and professional workforce.

“The Delta State Traffic Management Authority is committed to getting the very best as part of our rebranding initiative. We want people who are ready to work, people who understand the responsibility that comes with wearing the DESTMA uniform and who are willing to serve the people of Delta State professionally,” he said.

The DESTMA DG thanked the applicants for their interest, saying the large number of applications demonstrated confidence in the authority’s vision and renewed direction.
