Nigeria, Switzerland Move To Deepen Trade, Investment Ties As New Envoy Presents Credentials

 Nigeria and Switzerland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, development cooperation, education, culture and innovation.

The commitment followed the presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Switzerland, Wahab A. Akande, to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, at the Federal Palace in Bern on September 8, 2026.

During the ceremony, Akande conveyed the greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Parmelin and expressed Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Swiss authorities to expand bilateral cooperation and create new opportunities for institutional, commercial and people-to-people partnerships.

The Ambassador also underscored the need to strengthen economic and development cooperation between the two countries, while identifying trade and investment opportunities that could deliver greater benefits to both nations.

Akande described the Nigeria-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations as an important platform for sustained diplomatic engagement, noting that the mechanism provides an avenue for both countries to review bilateral relations, advance shared interests and identify new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to constructive dialogue and closer collaboration with Switzerland on issues of common interest, expressing confidence that his tenure would further deepen the cordial relations between the two countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ceremony reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to building a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial partnership with Switzerland in pursuit of shared interests and common aspirations.
