Lagos Confirms Arrest Of Man In Viral Toddler Abuse Video

The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of a man allegedly captured on video repeatedly beating a toddler in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following the circulation of the video on social media and subsequent intervention by the agency.

According to the DSVA, it activated its response protocol after being alerted to the alleged abuse and established contact with the child’s mother, who disclosed that the incident had already been reported at the Imota Police Station.

The agency said its officials subsequently contacted the Family Support Unit and were informed that the mother had initially reported the case to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency.

The alleged perpetrator was subsequently apprehended and is currently in police custody while the matter is being investigated.

The DSVA also said the child and her mother had been referred to a General Hospital for immediate medical attention and further assessment.

The arrest followed the circulation of a video showing a man allegedly flogging the toddler across the head and body with what appeared to be a charger cable. The footage generated widespread concern and calls for the suspect to be identified and brought to justice.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons had earlier said it was working with relevant security agencies to identify and locate the man seen in the video for possible prosecution.

The DSVA said it would continue to monitor the case and provide necessary support to the child and her mother.

The agency reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero tolerance for child abuse and urged residents to report suspected cases through the Child Protection Unit of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development or the DSVA.
