The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring a strategic partnership to strengthen meteorological training, joint research and the integration of weather and climate intelligence into military operations.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, received the Academy Provost of the NDA, Professor B.J. Ajibuah, during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

Discussions focused on opportunities to incorporate meteorological knowledge and weather and climate services into military training and operational planning to improve decision-making and strengthen personnel capacity.

The two institutions also explored areas of cooperation in specialised training, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange.

The proposed partnership is expected to promote the application of meteorological expertise to military activities while strengthening institutional collaboration and technical capacity.

As part of efforts to formalise the relationship, both institutions considered developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for sustained cooperation, identify priority areas and guide the implementation of joint initiatives.

The proposed collaboration underscores the importance of weather and climate information in operational planning and national security, as well as the role of partnerships between government institutions in advancing research, professional training and national development.
