American pop star Britney Spears has been formally charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of drugs and alcohol, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

The misdemeanor charge was filed on Thursday following her arrest earlier this month. Authorities say the incident occurred on the evening of March 4, when officers observed the singer allegedly driving at high speed and in an erratic manner.

According to Officer Ryan Ayers, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, Spears was stopped and subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI after officers deemed her driving behavior unsafe.

Prosecutors have not disclosed the specific substance allegedly involved. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office declined to provide further details regarding the case.

Spears is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at the Ventura County Superior Court, where she is expected to enter a plea.

If convicted, the singer could face penalties including fines, probation, or other legal consequences typical of misdemeanor DUI offenses under California law.

The case has drawn public attention given Spears’ global celebrity status and past legal challenges, though her representatives have yet to issue an official statement.
