Dua Lipa Accuses Samsung of Using Her Photo to Sell TVs Without Permission Sues $15Million Lawsuit
Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, accusing the tech giant of using her image without permission to market and sell television sets in the United States.
According to court documents filed in California federal court, the Grammy-winning singer claims Samsung used a copyrighted photograph of her on packaging for its TVs, allegedly creating the false impression that she officially endorsed the products.
The image at the center of the lawsuit was reportedly titled “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024,” and appeared on television boxes distributed across the US market in 2025. Lipa’s legal team alleges the image was used commercially without her authorization or compensation.
The singer is accusing Samsung of copyright infringement, trademark infringement and violation of publicity rights under California law. Her lawyers argue that the unauthorized use of her likeness damaged her carefully managed brand image and endorsement value.
Court filings reportedly state that Lipa became aware of the alleged misuse after consumers on social media began referring to Samsung products as the “Dua Lipa TV.” Her legal representatives claim cease-and-desist notices were sent to Samsung in 2025, but the company allegedly continued using the image.
Reuters reported that Samsung said the disputed image had been supplied by a third-party partner which assured the company that all necessary rights and permissions had been obtained. The electronics manufacturer said it is open to resolving the matter constructively with Lipa’s team.
The lawsuit seeks at least $15 million in damages, additional profits allegedly earned from the campaign, punitive damages, legal fees and a court order permanently preventing Samsung from using the image in future promotions.
The case has reignited discussions around celebrity image rights, intellectual property protection and unauthorized endorsements in global advertising campaigns.
