The Edo State Police Command has trained 160 personnel in combat operations, including a newly graduated female tactical squad, to strengthen the fight against crime in the state.

Commissioner of Police Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, the first female CP in Edo State, disclosed the training achievement at the closing ceremony in Benin City. The training was conducted in two batches of 80 personnel each, according to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu.

The CP said the retraining was part of her commitment to drastically reduce the crime level across the state. “In her quest to rid the state of crime, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, directed the immediate retraining of personnel to enhance their operational capabilities in tackling the challenges ahead,” the statement read in part.

Personnel were trained in VIP escort, ambush and counter-ambush, musketry, combat craft, tactical retrogression movement, and search and rescue.

The female tactical squad was included among the graduating officers to boost gender representation in frontline operations.

Addressing the newly trained officers, CP Otimenyin charged them to remain vigilant and courageous while responding swiftly to security breaches.

She also reminded them to uphold high professional standards, free from harassment, intimidation, and extortion.

The Commissioner, who assumed duty in January 2026 as the 49th CP of the state, has previously served in the Force Intelligence Department. She has made it clear that her command will be tougher on violence against women and children.

She also reassured all residents of the state of the command’s readiness to deliver improved, effective, and efficient service under her leadership.
