FG Arraigns Self-Styled Borno Youth Leader Kaigama on Terrorism Charges, Remands Him in DSS Custody

The Federal Government on Wednesday arraigned the President of the Borno State Youths Association (BOSYA), Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, before the Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism-related charges.

Kaigama, who was recently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), appeared before Justice Salim Ibrahim, who ordered that he remain in the custody of the secret police pending the commencement of his trial.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until September 25, 2026.

The arraignment follows Kaigama’s appearance on a Channels Television programme last week, where he admitted to engaging in discussions with members of the Boko Haram insurgent group regarding alleged ransom payments for kidnapped victims.

Security sources familiar with the investigation alleged that the DSS had obtained what they described as “rock-solid evidence” linking Kaigama to the extortion of families of kidnapping victims through negotiations with the terrorist group.

Although details of the charges were not immediately made public in court, the Federal Government is prosecuting the case on allegations bordering on terrorism-related offences.

Justice Ibrahim directed that the defendant remain in DSS custody until the next hearing, when trial is expected to commence.

The case is expected to draw significant public attention given the serious nature of the allegations and the ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat terrorism and kidnapping across the country.
