President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba, alongside 14 other individuals for appointment into the governing board of the National Human Rights Commission.

The nominations, which were formally transmitted to the National Assembly for confirmation, are part of efforts by the administration to strengthen Nigeria’s human rights framework and institutional oversight.

According to multiple reports, the list features a mix of professionals drawn from diverse sectors, including media, law, civil society, and public service. The inclusion of Anaba, a respected journalist and editor, has been widely interpreted as a move to bring media experience and advocacy into the Commission’s leadership.

The NHRC plays a critical role in promoting, protecting, and enforcing human rights across Nigeria. Its board is responsible for setting policy direction, overseeing operations, and ensuring compliance with both domestic and international human rights standards.

Analysts say the reconstitution of the board comes at a crucial time, as Nigeria continues to face challenges related to civil liberties, security, and governance. The new nominees are expected to bring renewed focus and credibility to the Commission if confirmed.

The Senate is expected to screen the nominees in the coming weeks, after which successful candidates will be inaugurated into office.
