Jimoh Ibrahim Secures Top UN Budget Committee Role, Receives Tinubu’s Praise
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chair of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee, which oversees budget and administrative matters of the global body.
The President described the election as a significant achievement, particularly at a time when the United Nations is undergoing financial adjustments and institutional reforms aimed at improving efficiency, accountability and long-term sustainability.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said Ambassador Ibrahim’s emergence reflects confidence in his broad experience across public service, diplomacy, business leadership and legislative responsibilities.
Tinubu noted that Ibrahim’s background, including his service in Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation as well as his role as Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations, positions him to provide “steady and strategic leadership” in managing the responsibilities of the committee.
The President also highlighted Ibrahim’s academic and professional expertise in law, international taxation and business administration, saying these qualities demonstrate a strong understanding of global governance systems and fiscal management.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria expects that the ambassador’s leadership at the United Nations will further strengthen the country’s reputation within the international community and contribute meaningfully to ongoing UN reforms.
He expressed confidence that Ibrahim’s performance in the role would reflect positively on Nigeria and align with the administration’s broader reform agenda at home.
The President concluded by congratulating the ambassador on what he described as a well-deserved recognition and the confidence placed in him by the international community.
