Nigerian security forces have killed several suspected terrorists and recovered a large cache of weapons during coordinated military operations in parts of Yobe State and southern Borno State, in what authorities describe as a significant blow to insurgent activities in the Northeast.

According to military sources, the operations were carried out by troops under Operation Hadin Kai, targeting known insurgent enclaves and supply routes across the region. The offensive reportedly involved ground assaults backed by intelligence-led surveillance, leading to fierce gun battles with fighters believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram and its rival faction, Islamic State West Africa Province.

Security officials said several insurgents were neutralized during the encounters, while others fled with injuries into surrounding forests. Troops also destroyed multiple hideouts and logistics bases used for planning attacks.

A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered at the scene. Items reportedly seized include assault rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, and communication equipment. Military authorities noted that the recovery could significantly disrupt planned attacks and weaken the operational capacity of the armed groups.

The Nigerian military reiterated its commitment to sustaining pressure on insurgents across the Northeast, particularly in volatile areas spanning southern Borno and parts of Yobe State. Civilian communities in the affected regions have long faced threats from insurgent violence, including raids, abductions and destruction of property.

While officials described the operation as successful, they also cautioned that counterinsurgency efforts remain ongoing, with troops continuing clearance operations and patrols to prevent regrouping by fleeing fighters.
