The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has smashed a robbery gang operating in Uyo, arresting three suspects and recovering a significant cache of stolen items following a residential attack.

The breakthrough came after a distress report was received on May 25, 2026, from a resident who alleged that three armed men invaded his home and dispossessed him of valuable property. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the development in a statement.

Acting swiftly on the report, police detectives launched an intelligence-driven investigation that led to the arrest of the first suspect, identified as Inyene Aniefiok of Eka Street, Uyo. During interrogation, Aniefiok reportedly confessed to his involvement in the robbery.

The suspect subsequently provided information that led investigators to two other alleged gang members. Emmanuel Thomas and Elijah Gideon, both residents of Udi Street, Uyo, were arrested in the early hours of May 29, 2026.

A follow-up operation resulted in the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen during the robbery. The recovered items include a Sumec generator, an arc saw, electrical wires, hand gloves, wrecking tools, a pinch bar, machetes, and a blood pressure monitoring machine.

The command stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover the weapons allegedly used in carrying out the robbery.
