President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a message of support to the Super Falcons ahead of their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final match against Morocco. In a statement, President Tinubu praised the team’s performance at the tournament, saying they have represented the country with pride, honor, and strength.

“Tonight, you stand at the cusp of history as you face the host nation, Morocco, in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat,” President Tinubu said. “Your performance at this tournament over the past three weeks has been awe-inspiring.” Tinubu commended the team’s sportsmanship, citing their visit to injured Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana as a reflection of their shared humanity and empathy.

The President expressed confidence in the team’s ability to win the title, citing their impressive statistics and past successes. “If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions,” Tinubu said. “You have emerged triumphant in all your previous nine finals.” Tinubu has sent a presidential delegation to attend the final in Rabat, led by Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

The delegation will convey the full support of the government and people of Nigeria and cheer the team on to victory. Tinubu thanked the families of the Super Falcons team, coaches, friends, and the Nigerian community in Morocco for their support throughout the competition. “You will finish strong by the Grace of God,” Tinubu said. “Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home.” Tinubu looks forward to receiving the team, the trophy, and officials in Abuja after the match.
