Spanish giants Real Madrid CF have fined midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni €500,000 each following an internal disciplinary investigation linked to an altercation between the two players.

In an official statement released on Friday, the club confirmed that both players appeared before the investigating officer overseeing the disciplinary proceedings opened against them earlier this week.

According to the statement, Valverde and Tchouaméni expressed “sincere regret” over the incident and apologized to one another. They also extended apologies to the club, teammates, coaching staff and supporters, while pledging full cooperation with any sanctions deemed appropriate by the club.

“Both offered their full cooperation to Real Madrid, ready to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate,” the statement read, adding that the internal procedures had now been concluded following the financial penalties.

While Real Madrid did not publicly disclose full details of the incident, Spanish media reports suggested tensions escalated between the two midfielders after a heated exchange during training earlier this week, following frustration over the club’s recent performances and dressing-room pressure after a difficult run of results.

The situation reportedly prompted club officials to launch an internal review in a bid to prevent further disruption inside the squad as the season enters a crucial stage.

Both players are considered key figures in Madrid’s midfield rebuild in recent years. Valverde has become one of the club’s most versatile and energetic performers, while Tchouaméni remains a central part of the club’s long-term plans after arriving from AS Monaco in 2022.

The disciplinary action comes amid growing scrutiny on the squad following recent setbacks in domestic and European competitions, with manager Xabi Alonso under pressure to maintain unity inside the dressing room ahead of the final stretch of the campaign.
