Toba Ijaya’s Daughter Moves Mourners to Tears With Emotional Funeral Tribute
The daughter of the late National Union of Road Transport Workers chieftain, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, delivered a heartfelt tribute at his burial that left many mourners overwhelmed with emotion.
The funeral ceremony, held on July 21, 2026, at Ereko Street in the Fadeyi area of Lagos, drew a large gathering of family members, friends, union colleagues, and sympathisers who came to pay their final respects.
The defining moment came when the deceased’s daughter stepped forward to address the mourners.
Despite her grief, she spoke with remarkable composure and delivered her tribute in fluent British English, reflecting on her father’s life, values, and contributions.
Her eloquence and emotional expression resonated deeply with the audience, as many were seen wiping tears from their eyes, while others nodded in admiration.
At the conclusion of her speech, the gathering erupted in applause, and attendees offered words of comfort as she stepped down.
Toba Ijaya was a prominent figure in the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW, serving as its organising secretary until his death . He was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen on July 12, 2026, following an ambush in the Fadeyi area.
His burial was attended by security personnel, union leaders, including Abdulazeez Lawal known as Kunle Poly, as well as Christian and Muslim clerics who offered prayers for the bereaved family.
In her tribute, the daughter also expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and the leadership of the NURTW for their support during the family’s period of mourning.
The emotional moment became one of the highlights of the ceremony, underscoring the deep affection many held for the late transport union leader and the legacy he left behind.
