Tragedy in Kenya as Boarding School Fire Claims 16 Students
At least 16 students have been killed after a devastating fire swept through a dormitory at a girls’ boarding school in Kenya, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
According to local officials and emergency responders, the blaze broke out overnight while students were asleep inside the hostel building. Several other students suffered injuries, with some reported to be in critical condition after sustaining severe burns and smoke inhalation.

Kenyan police said firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls, but the fire spread rapidly through the dormitory before it could be fully contained. The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, though investigations are already underway.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes as students attempted to escape from the burning building. Parents and residents reportedly gathered at the school in shock as emergency officials searched the wreckage for survivors.

School fires have previously raised serious safety concerns in Kenya, where overcrowded dormitories, poor electrical wiring, and inadequate emergency exits have been blamed for several past tragedies. In recent years, authorities have repeatedly promised stricter safety regulations for boarding schools across the country.

Kenyan government officials expressed condolences to the families of the victims, while education authorities announced that counseling and support services would be provided to survivors and affected families.
