Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for renewed commitment to the protection of children’s rights and welfare as the world commemorates the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour.

In a message marking the international observance on Friday, the First Lady urged governments, communities, families, and stakeholders to work together to eliminate child labour and ensure that every child has access to education, safety, and opportunities for personal development.

The 2026 World Day Against Child Labour is being observed under the theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults.”

According to Mrs. Tinubu, no child should be deprived of the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams because of forced labour or exploitative working conditions.

She stressed that children deserve to be raised in safe and supportive environments where they can thrive, noting that their place is in homes, schools, and playgrounds rather than workplaces.

The First Lady further called for increased investment in programmes and initiatives that support children’s well-being while empowering families and communities to provide adequate care and protection for young people.

She urged Nigerians to unite in the fight against child labour and contribute to building a society where every child can enjoy a brighter and more secure future.

“Let us all raise a red card against child labour and work together for a fairer and more promising future for every child,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu also congratulated children and advocates of child rights across the country on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour and reaffirmed the need for collective action to safeguard the rights and dignity of every child.
