VIDEO: PRESIDENT TINUBU VISITS BENUE STATE, ASSURES GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF DEADLY ATTACKS
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Benue State to assess the situation following deadly attacks in the Yeltewa community. Upon his arrival, President Tinubu’s motorcade was met with a somber scene – residents lined the streets in black, wailing and crying as he passed.
The president proceeded to a local hospital where survivors are receiving treatment, interacting with some of the injured and listening to their accounts. He offered assurances of government support, aiming to provide relief to those affected by the violence.
The president is also expected to visit families of the victims and displaced persons in Yeltewa before heading to the Government House in Makurdi for a town hall meeting with key stakeholders. The meeting aims to address the prolonged communal violence that has claimed over 500 lives in 2025 alone.

According to reports, the recent attack in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area left at least 59 residents dead and hundreds displaced. However, some sources put the death toll at over 200.

During his visit, President Tinubu will meet with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, community elders, and youth groups. He will chair a town hall meeting aimed at finding lasting peace in the region, which has suffered a string of deadly attacks blamed on armed militias.

Ahead of the president’s visit, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Inspector General of Police, National Security Adviser, and heads of intelligence agencies were deployed to Benue. Senate and House Defence Committee chairmen are also part of the team.
The president had previously condemned the ongoing violence in Benue State and called on all leaders and residents to “embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding”. He extended his condolences to families of victims and others affected by the crisis.
