Russian Attack on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Kills Seven, Injures 10, Governor Says
Russian attacks on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed seven people and injured 10 others on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as emergency workers searched through rubble for people who may still be trapped beneath damaged buildings.
Regional governor Mykhailo Semikin confirmed the casualties, saying the early-morning attack struck several locations simultaneously. Rescue operations were continuing as authorities assessed the damage and worked to locate possible survivors.
The latest assault adds to a series of Russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia and other Ukrainian regions, with residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure repeatedly affected by the continuing war.
The full extent of the destruction from Saturday’s attack was still being assessed, and officials had not ruled out further changes to the casualty figures as rescue teams continued their work.
Emergency teams were deployed to the affected locations following the strikes, with rescuers searching damaged structures and clearing debris. The possibility that additional people remained trapped beneath the rubble raised concerns that the death toll could increase.
The attack came a day after separate Russian strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, damaging residential buildings and injuring civilians. Ukrainian authorities reported that Friday’s attacks across the country had also caused casualties in other regions, underscoring the scale of the latest wave of bombardments.
Zaporizhzhia, a major industrial city in southeastern Ukraine, has repeatedly come under Russian attack since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. The wider region remains strategically important because of its location near the front line and its industrial and energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called for stronger air defences to protect cities and critical facilities from missiles, drones and guided aerial bombs.
As rescue and recovery efforts continue, residents face renewed uncertainty over their safety, while authorities work to establish the full impact of Saturday’s strikes.
