The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan and Paramount Ruler of Ibadan Land. In a statement, Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Alhaji Sai’idu Maccido, conveyed the Sultan’s heartfelt condolences to the Oyo State government, the bereaved family, and the entire members of the Olubadan-in-Council.

Alhaji Sai’idu Maccido stated that the Sultan described the late monarch as “a remarkable leader—a good-hearted giant in thought and action.” The Sultan acknowledged the significant contributions Oba Olakulehin made towards the development of Ibadan Land and humanity at large, despite his short tenure of just over a year on the throne. “The passing of this great monarch leaves a void that will be felt across the land,” the Sultan said, as quoted by Maccido.

Sai’idu Maccido further quoted the Sultan as saying, “Even though he was with us for just a year beyond his ascension to the throne, his legacy and dedication to his people will forever resound in the hearts and minds of everyone.” The Sultan prayed for the family and the good people of Ibadan Land, saying, “May God grant the family and the good people of Ibadan Land the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Ameen.”

Sai’idu Maccido’s statement reflects the profound respect and admiration held for Oba Olakulehin, whose legacy will be cherished by generations. The Sultan’s words of condolence underscore the impact of the late monarch’s leadership on the people of Ibadan Land and beyond.
