PRESIDENT TINUBU EXTENDS CONDOLENCES OVER TRAGIC IBAJI BOAT ACCIDENT IN KOGI STATE

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over a devastating boat accident in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday, which claimed several lives. The victims were traders heading from Ibaji in Kogi State to Ilushi market in Edo State.

Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) Bayo Onanuga issued a statement conveying President Tinubu’s commiserations with the government and people of Kogi State over the sad incident. Bayo Onanuga noted President Tinubu describes the tragedy as shocking and unfortunate, particularly because the victims were pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood. “President Tinubu expresses profound sorrow at the unfortunate incident, describing it as shocking and unfortunate, especially as the victims were embarking on their legitimate quest to make a decent living,” in a statement.

The President lauded the prompt actions of first responders at the scene of the accident and called on federal, state, and local emergency agencies to intensify efforts to assist survivors and victims’ families. Bayo Onanuga further highlighted President Tinubu’s renewed appeal to water transport operators to place safety above profit motives. “President Tinubu once again urges operators of water transportation to prioritise safety over financial considerations in their daily business,” in a statement.

Offering prayers for the deceased and injured, President Tinubu sought “the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed and quick recovery for the injured”.
