Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, has announced plans to launch a nationwide programme aimed at supporting commercially viable inventions and innovations across the country.

The initiative, tagged “Energise Commercialisation,” was disclosed during a visit by the minister to the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, at the State House in Abuja.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, dated March 10, 2026.

According to the minister, the visit was to formally inform the First Lady of the ministry’s decision to appoint her as the champion of the programme, which seeks to transform Nigeria from a technology-importing nation into a technology-driven innovator.

Udeh explained that the initiative is designed to strengthen the capacity of Nigerian youths and other innovators who possess commercially viable ideas and inventions.

He noted that the programme would help identify and support creative talents across the country, particularly those whose innovations can be developed into marketable products and services.

The minister also revealed that sensitisation activities for the programme had already commenced and would be extended to all states of the federation under the leadership of the First Lady.

He added that the initiative would focus on reaching people at all levels of society, including students in schools and individuals in rural communities who may possess innovative ideas but lack the necessary support to develop them.

“We will be going to schools at all levels and across communities to reach even those who may not have formal education but possess valuable inventions and innovations. Nigeria has the brains, and we want to help them achieve their goals,” he said.
